Why Physical Therapy?
And Why Physical Therapy at Trio Rehabilitation & Wellness?
The goal of therapy is to promote a person’s independent function, reduce pain, and prevent disability. When you choose to utilize a therapy clinic for your physical, occupational, or speech therapy needs make sure to look out for the following high quality criteria.
Client-Centered Care
Each type of therapy and therapist should focus one thing first and foremost, which is client-centered care. At Trio Rehabilitation & Wellness Solutions (Trio Rehab) in Boerne, TX; client-centered care means we put YOU first. We want to know about your concerns, your goals, and promote your recovery using appropriate medically based intervention.
Confidence
After experiencing struggle or complete loss performing an activity, one’s confidence can be shattered; confidence in ones capabilities, confidence that you will improve, and confidence to return to the things you love to do. Jennica Colvin, Owner and Occupational Therapist at Trio Rehab. relays a story of her 85-year-old client who fell twice while unloading groceries from her care. On one of those occasions, the client laid on the garage floor for over 3 hours while waiting for help. During the evaluation, the client reported she was fearful of falling again and was limiting time outside of her house to avoid falls. After 6 weeks of therapy, the same client reported greater strength, improved endurance, and better awareness of her surroundings. Her assessments revealed improved scores as well. She started using a rolling cart (adaptive equipment) to place her groceries on vs. risking tripping while carrying heavy bags. At her discharge session, the client tearfully told Jennica her greatest accomplishment was getting back confidence to remain active in her life.
Stability/Strength
Therapists are experts in their respective fields of movement, independence, and communication. Often, pain or dysfunction occur due to muscular weakness, muscle tears, falls, low vision, or difficulty speaking. Finding the source of dysfunction (think Sciatica), stabilizing and strengthening the proper joint, and then performing the same activity that used to create the pain demonstrates increased joint stability and strength.
Education
Education is key in anyone’s rehabilitation process. If one does not understand the problem then it often makes no sense to perform what is being requested. At Trio Rehab., we use anatomy pictures, visual feedback, and handouts to improve education about your problem. When people leave the clinic, they feel empowered to complete their home exercise program because it makes sense.
With these ideas in mind, shop around and find the best clinic for your needs. Should you have further questions, please call Trio Rehab. at 830.755.6091.
